What happens if I meet someone I like at a social?

Attending the socials is the best way to perhaps meet someone you like. If you do meet someone you think you might like, you can let us know and, with your agreement, we can ask the person if they would like to meet you for a Zoom or in person friendship date.

Where we know the person is seeing someone else, we will let you know, but it is always worth asking us.  If the person has a mutual desire to meet you, we will arrange for you to chat. We always say that dates are to get to know someone in friendship to begin with, so you get to know more about each other.

Why join Safe Soulmates?

If you are feeling, lonely, isolated and in need of finding like-minded friends in a fun, social environment, then you have come to the right place.  We are also the only organisation in Cambridgeshire which supports a relationship to develop if there is a mutual romantic connection. Most couples who have met through us have done so because they have attended our social groups (in real life and currently mostly on Zoom).  If you don’t want to join our socials and you just want to find a relationship, that’s fine too. It can take time and you may not meet the person of your dreams, but you might and many people have.  We always suggest matches where we think people might get on really well.

What socials do you run?

We run socials on Zoom, with Viv and Soulmates hosting, as well as in person. On Zoom, socials include: Film Club, Women’s Hour, Chatty Tuesday (in collaboration with Gr8mates in Bedford), Men’s hour, Quiet chat, Agony Aunt Hour, Viv’s Huggle and Chat (activity and chat).

In person, we meet in pubs, go bowling, visit restaurants, go for walks, meet for cinema outings, and host Mates and Dates parties. We have also been to the beach, to gigs and to the theatre. We organise what people want us to and, once more confident, soulmates meet indepedently of us if they wish.

We do not promise more than one social a month, but we do much more than that. Once you are a soulmate, you will receive our schedule of online and in person socials.

Our in person meet ups take place in Cambridge, Ely, Huntingdon, March, St Neots and Peterborough.

How do I become a buddy at Safe Soulmates?

To be a buddy to a new Soulmate, you will need to have been a Soulmate for over 1 year and then you can apply.

Vicky, Christine & Lizzie will interview you.

How do I meet people if I am shy?

If you feel that you are too shy to come to the socials, then we can:

  • simply put your details on our database of people we know who wish to find a friend or romantic partner;
  • or you can come to our socials on Zoom with your camera off and you can speak or not speak;
  • or you can simply chat using the chat function – there is the option on Zoom to chat to everyone or to privately chat.

Our only rule is that if there is someone you like, then you let us know so we can see if this is mutual and if it is then we can organise for you to meet one-to-one.  It really does work better that way.

What if I have any concerns?

If you have any concerns at all, please contact us, our team will be able to put your mind at rest. Nothing is ever that bad.

Will I find a best friend or the love of my life?

People have but it has taken time and lots of getting to know each other. Some people have had one-to-one introductions and others have not as the right person may not have joined yet. Most matches have happened when people attend the meet ups, it helps us get to know you but also for you to relax and be yourself. We cannot guarantee success but we do our best to help you make much needed connections to others.

Christine and Vicky are responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation, and they are supported by an excellent steering group.

What is a chaperone?

A chaperone is someone who will attend your first friendship date.  They will meet you on the day and introduce you to the person you are meeting. They will not stay by your side the entire time (unless you want them to) but they are there to help if you have questions, need help with something and to tell you about what happens next when the meet up has ended.

What makes Safe Soulmates different from dating sites?

Dating sites are not a safe or positive place to build friendships or find romance, at Safe Soulmates we do it differently. Safe Soulmates aims to provide a supportive environment for its members by hosting meet-ups in pubs, clubs and any other venues our members suggest, to help people connect with one another in a safe way.  Where there is a romantic spark, Safe Soulmates supports this to grow in a positive way by chaperoning dates and offering tailored advice with the help of Dhiverse, a sexual health charity based in Cambridge.

Where is Safe Soulmates?

We host meet ups in Cambridge, Ely, Huntingdon, March, St Neots and Peterborough.

We are also available on Zoom, so if you are struggling to leave the house, you may like to kick start your social life this way.

How long will it take for me to find friends?

It can take time to make friends, but we can guarantee that if you come to our social events and small meet ups, you will meet some lovely people. All Soulmates have completed paperwork, have character references and we check everyone’s ID. Safe Soulmates is all about helping you to connect to others, so rest assured that we will help you to do this.

People do meet partners, we have some lovely matches, but it has taken time and lots of getting to know each other. We always say join for friendship and fun and you never know who you might meet.

Can i just meet women?

Yes, you can. If you would just like to meet up with women for friendship and/or romance, we organise women only groups and one-to-one matches. Romance can take time, but friendship we can definitely do quickly 🙂
